Mott, the Chairman of the Continuation Committee established by the World Missionary Conference held at Edinburgh in 1910, presided over a National Conference of Missionaries in Calcutta. The most important decision taken at this meeting was to form Provincial and National Missionary Councils. The National Missionary Council, in 1923, became the National Christian Council. Provincial Councils: This Conference notes that in the findings of the various Provincial Conferences there is general recognition of the desirability of the formation of provincial bodies in some form to promote the work of co-operation and in various ways to increase the efficiency of the Church's work.
