Some have proceeded so far\nas to express faith in Christ, but are unable to receive baptism on\naccount of the peculiar trials in their way. A few have overcome\nall difficulties and declared their faith.\nIt is difficult to estimate the number of secret believers in the\nzenanas, or to say how many have openly received baptism. We\nhave no reliable statistics of either. We know there have been\nseveral converts in connection with our mission. Only last year\nthere were three most interesting cases of baptism in Lodiana.\nThese ladies were long under instruction and were distinctly the\nfruit of zenana labours.\n132. THE ROYAL COURT JUDGEMENT, TRAVANCORE\n(1889 A.D.)\nThe portion of the judgement of the Royal Court of Travancore of\n1889 here cited has importat bearing upon the question of the rela-\ntionship of the Orthodox Church in Kerala with the Patriarch of\nAntioch. The judgement as a whole related to the controversy which,\nas a result of this judgement, led to the formation of the independent\nMar Thoma Church. The Majority and Minority Judgements of the\nRoyal Court of Final Appeal, Travancore, 1883, pp. 115-116.\n(Para.) 347. The conclusions we have arrived at on the whole,\nare that the Respondent's claim is not barred by limitation; that\nthe Ecclesiastical Supremacy of the See of Antioch over the Syrian\nChurch in Travancore has been all along, recognised and acknow-\nledged by the Jacobite Syrian Community and their Metropolitans;\nthat the exercise of that supreme power consisted in ordaining,\neither directly or by duly authorised Delegates, Metropolitans\nfrom time to time to manage the spiritual matters of the local\nChurch, in sending Morone (Holy oil) to be used in the churches\nin this country for Baptismal and other purposes and, in general\nsupervision over the spiritual government of the Church; that the\nauthority of the Patriarch has never extended to the government\nof the temporalities of the Church which, in this respect has been\nan independent Church; that the Metropolitan of the Syrian\nJacobite Church in Travancore should be a native of Malabar\nconsecrated by the Patriarch of Antioch, or by his duly authorized\nDelegates and accepted by the people as their Metropolitan to\nentitle him to the spiritual and temporal government of the local\nChurch; that the Respondent had been so consecrated and accepted\nby the majority of the people and consequently had a perfect right\nto succeed to the Metropolitanship on the death of Mar Athanasius;",
